How to add members to your DAO using the Aragon App

Membership and community is a key part of your DAO, but membership will most likely will change over time. So, you need a simple way to add and remove members for a wallet-based DAO, and mint more tokens in a token-based DAO. Luckily, the Aragon App makes it easy to perform these actions without ever leaving the App!

Here are the steps to add members to your DAO using the Aragon App.

Wallet-based DAOs

You make decisions by wallets on an allowlist approving or denying a proposal.

1: From the Community tab, click “Manage Members.”

Click “Community” then the “Manage Members” button.

You can also start this process by clicking “New Proposal” from the DAO dashboard or governance tab, but this is the fastest way.

2: Paste the wallet address you want to add or select the wallet you want to remove

You can add and remove members here. You can also see how adding or removing members changes the approval threshold.

3: Initiate the vote

Set the start and expiration time for your proposal.

4: Write the title, description, and body for the proposal

Write a title, description, and body so members know what they’re voting about.

5: Review the proposal

Check over everything to make sure it’s correct.

6: Publish the proposal and wait for members to approve it

Pay the gas fees required for the blockchain your DAO is deployed on.

Now, the proposal is active and you need to let members approve or deny it.

7: If the proposal passes, any wallet can execute it to complete the process

If the proposal meets the approval threshold you set in your governance settings, any wallet can execute the proposal. Just click the “Execute Now” button to sign a transaction to execute it. Now, the new member will be added to your DAO!

You can see the new member added on the Community page.

Token-based DAOs

You make decisions by voting with a governance token.

To add members to a token-based DAO, you need to mint more tokens and assign them to the new member’s wallet address. You cannot remove members from a token-based DAO, but a member can exit a token-based DAO by selling or transferring their tokens to another address.

1: From the Community page, click "Mint Tokens"

This will start a new proposal to mint more tokens. You can also start this process from the homepage by clicking "New Proposal."

2: Paste in the wallet addresses and assign how many tokens to give to each one

You can see how many of the total supply the new holders will have, helping you understand how voting power will be distributed across wallets.

The number of new holders will also be shown. If you mint tokens to a wallet that already has governance power, it will say "0 New holders," as you can see in the image below.

3: Initiate the vote

Set the start time for your vote and the vote duration, if you would like it to be longer than the minimum you set when you created your DAO

4: Write the title, description, and body of the proposal

Describe what will happen if the proposal passes so members can decide how to vote.

5: Review the proposal

Double check to make sure everything is correct.

6: Publish the proposal and wait for members to cast their votes

Publish the proposal by paying a gas fee required for the chain your DAO is deployed on.

7: If the proposal passes, any wallet can execute it

If the proposal passes, any wallet can click “Execute now” to finish the process. The tokens will be assigned to the new member’s wallet, giving the member voting rights in your organization!
